Ed Tech Startup Space: K-12 and iPad

Several of the current ed-tech startups are involved with the higher-ed world, I am very interested in the K-12 world. As a former educator, I have some valuable insight into what actually works in the classroom and where there is need for improvement. In my current work with schools, I help districts implement technologies and technology programs. This past summer I spent a great deal of time working with schools to roll out iPads. Schools here are just completely gaga over iPads. This is great news not only for Apple, but for the Ed Tech Startup scene. Schools now need content that is deliverable on the iPad. I am going to list a few Ed Tech startups that focus on iPad content.

edshelf.com is a website for teachers to search and find apps and tools. Not all of the apps are for iPads, but many are.

Socarative is a tool for teachers that is a smart student response system for use use on iPads and other devices.

Tap To Learn makes engaging educational apps for iPads (Math vs Zombies)

E-Spark Learning  helps students set academic goals and recommends iPad apps

3 of the above mentioned startups came from a startup accelerator that focuses on education called Imagine K-12

The current market for iPads in education is huge! Many developers are working on their own for that next killer iPad app and others are forming startups to make productive learning tools. During its third fiscal quarter earnings Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer revealed the three month period was the best ever for education iPad sales and nearly doubled in the K-12 market. How can startups build software that takes advantage of schools recent interest in iPads?
